Our History

I had always been interested in showing and breeding dogs from an early age. We had both grown up with many different breeds, but it was mainly the bigger working dogs which we truely loved. It wasn't until we bought our first house our dream of owning a larger dog came true.

We had decided that we wanted to re-home a rescue dog first, as my view on owning a dog is that if you’re not prepared to re-home one first then perhaps you should think twice before you buy one. I had been researching what type of dog we wanted, and came up with 4 breeds, Rottweiler, German Sheppard, Dogue De Bordeux and last but not least the Bullmastiff. We called round a few localish rescue centres and one weekend went on the search for the perfect dog. I'd called the local RSPCA as they said they had a bullmastiff called Sid so we were really interested in going to see him. They were only open for an hour at the weekends as there all volunteers, so we decided to look at the other homing centres first. No matter where we went everything kept coming back to Sid. So when they were open we went to see him. He was out for his daily walk, but when he came back he stood on top of the hill with the sunlight behind him, I looked at Gavin and said "there’s my new baby!" When we finally met Sid (now called Duke) and we'd been slobbered on, there was no doubt about it he was coming home with us. We had the home check the next day and brought him home! What can I say, Duke certainly made himself at home all 11 stone of him. Our poor cat had to get use to the idea of a very big dog in the house.

It wasn't until a year later that I decided that I'd caught the bullmastiff bug that everyone had been going on about, and decided that I wanted to get a show bitch. So February 2007 we decided to take the plunge.  I'd phoned round a few breed clubs and looked on the internet and was recommended by the bullmastiff association to get in touch with Chris and Jayne of Joybull. Their Champion bitch had just had a litter of puppies. So I spoke to Chris on the phone, found out all about Fleur, and just had a really lovely chat with him. The following day we made the 8 hour round trip to North Wales to see them. Well nothing can prepare you for seeing 11, 7 week old puppies playing in a puppy pen! We knew they would be big but as we never had Duke as a puppy we didn't realise how big they actually are. A week later we were the proud owners of Lani, (Joybull Heavenly) Our first bitch! We also met Brian, Ann and Ross, Ky's (Ferdhu Rostar) owners. I can honestly say I’ve never met nicer people. They really have given us a lot of advice on bringing up Lani well.

We've put a lot of hard work into raising Lani, and I hope you’ll all agree I’ve done a pretty good job.

In 2008 Guardmoore branched out into the world of Dogues. I'd been researching this breed for over a year. And finally came across Bev and Les of Jerivindi. We arranged to go meet them and see all their dogs. What can I say that hasn't been said before. They are truely wonderful people, very passionate about their dogs, the breed, and of course the resuce. So we waited for the right pup. 3 months later along came Taurus, and our lives would never be the same again.
